Fox News' Brett Bayer got his first one-on-one interview with Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky after meeting with President Trump on Friday at the White House.
The meeting between the two world leaders could prove integral to the ongoing trajectory of the Ukraine-Russian war that began three years ago.
Trump had a rocky relationship with Zelensky, especially in the conflict that escalated into a full-scale war after the invasion of his Russian neighbors. The US and other countries have sent billions of equipment and aid to help Ukraine protect itself, but Trump vowed to reassess his administration's position last month.
This week, the United States sided with Russia over a non-binding UN General Assembly resolution calling for an end to the conflict as Russia condemned the war.
Since taking office last month, Trump has refused to hold Russia or President Vladimir Putin accountable. He repeatedly questioned US spending on the conflict, and blown up at Zelensky, who was praised primarily during the Biden administration as a “dictator” among other insults.
Trump also began negotiations for a peace settlement without representatives from Ukraine and other European counties who contributed to the resources. Trump and Zelensky eventually met in the White House to hash their differences and agreed to finalize a deal on rare minerals that could mean millions of things to the US government. US officials supporting the arrangement have argued that once the war ends, Ukraine will benefit from security guarantees.
Baier's interview with Zelensky is scheduled to air on Fox News' “Special Report” on Friday at 6pm.
According to advice from the network, the interview focuses on “conferences, efforts to end the Russian-Ukraine war, and other other news.”
