Baker Mayfield has hilarious response about Tommy DeVito ‘tribute’

Baker Mayfield overruled Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito's signature hand gesture after scoring a rushing touchdown just before halftime in a game in which the Buccaneers defeated the Giants. He vowed to honor quarterback Tommy DeVito.

“It was a tribute. Hats off to Tommy,” Mayfield told reporters. According to ESPN.

“Most of the time, I don't know what I'm going to do… so it's spontaneous,” Mayfield later said. “New York fans love Tommy here, so give them what they like.”

After Mayfield expressed his admiration for the Giants' young quarterback, he was asked if he happened to be of Italian descent.

Although a little expressionless, the Buccaneers quarterback quickly responded.

“I've never done 23andMe, but I don't know,” he said.

Mayfield rushed the ball down the middle of the Giants 10-yard line with 20 seconds left in the first half, hurdling Giants cornerback Cordale Flotte.

He jumped up and began making hand gestures, celebrating in the end zone.

Mayfield finished the game with one rushing touchdown while throwing for 294 yards on 24 completions.

As the season continues to slump, the Bucks suffered another ugly loss to the Giants.

DeVito completed 21 of 31 pass attempts for 189 yards, but was sacked four times.

The young QB had a rough first half, going 3-of-5 for 31 yards.

“The first half was tough,” DeVito said. “We just have to figure out what they were doing. I know it sounds trite, but all that's left is to get them executed. We started, but it was too late.”

Both teams had lost bye weeks, and the Bucks had lost four straight before that.

It was the Giants' ninth loss of the season and their sixth straight loss.
