In California, the beloved bald eagle pair has welcomed a new egg into their nest in Big Bear, just weeks after a crow attack led to the destruction of their previous one.
This marks the third egg of the year for Jackie and Shadow, who have garnered quite a following through their live camera feed.
Video footage captured Jackie standing up to reveal her freshly laid egg around 2:30 PM on Tuesday, briefly showcasing it before settling back down. Interestingly, during much of the day, she appeared to be munching on pancakes while Shadow kept a vigilant watch over her.
As Jackie indulged in her meal, her drowsy eyes suggested she might be preparing to lay eggs, which indeed turned out to be the case. This positive development comes after Jackie and Shadow experienced a setback last month when two eggs were lost due to a crow’s surprise visit, a tragedy that left viewers speculating about the reasons behind it.
Friends of Big Bear Valley, the organization behind the nest camera, reflected on that earlier incident, noting, “We’ll never know why, but we’re sure they had a reason, as they have faithfully incubated the eggs.”
Speculation arose regarding the couple’s instincts; perhaps they sensed something was off with the previous eggs or were merely guarding their territory, considering the recent sightings of other eagles in the area.
Last year, Jackie and Shadow took on the role of adoptive parents to two eaglets, Sunny and Gizmo. It’s fascinating to think about how their journey continues to unfold.
