Bangladeshi Actor Nusraat Faria, Noted for Portraying Sheikh Hasina, Arrested in Murder Case

Bangladeshi Actress Nusrat Faria Arrested

Dhaka: Nusrat Faria, a Bangladeshi actress known for portraying former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was arrested last year in connection with an alleged attempted murder linked to anti-government protests. She was apprehended at Shajalal International Airport in Dhaka while en route to Thailand, following the issuance of an arrest warrant.

Reports from local media indicate that Faria, 31, was detained at an immigration checkpoint. A legal case has been filed against her and 16 other actors related to an incident during student protests in July, which involved an alleged attempt to harm a student in Vatara, Dhaka, leading to calls for Sheikh Hasina’s expulsion.

“Our team responded to information from immigration police. The court approved the attempted murder case against her, resulting in her arrest,” cited officer Sujan Hake from Bdnews24.com.

The lawsuit was reportedly filed at Vatara Police Station amid protests from the anti-discrimination student movement, Hake noted.

After her arrest, Faria was taken to Vatara Police Station but was subsequently transferred to the office of the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Local media suggests the court had approved the attempted murder charges against her just days before her arrest.

Faria entered the acting scene with the film “Aashiqui” in 2015, which achieved commercial success. She has since appeared in several notable films, including “Hero 420,” “Badsha – The Don,” “Premi O Premi,” and “Boss 2: Back to Rule.”

In 2023, she portrayed Hasina in “Mujib: The Making of a Nation,” a film based on the life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh. The film was co-produced by Bangladesh and India, with renowned director Shyam Benegal at the helm, also featuring Alifin Shubou in a prominent role.
