Bank of America Launches $250 Billion Infrastructure Initiative

Bank of America (BofA) is kicking off an ambitious $250 billion initiative aimed at enhancing U.S. infrastructure, covering everything from data centers to semiconductor plants and transportation projects.

On Wednesday, they unveiled their Critical Infrastructure Finance Initiative, which plans to deploy this substantial amount through various channels—lending, investments, capital markets, and advisory transactions—over an 18-month timeline that wraps up on July 4, 2027.

The motivation behind this initiative stems from the rising demand for computing resources, power, and manufacturing capabilities, compounded by a need for more diversified supply chains across the country. BofA emphasized that this initiative will prioritize projects that bolster energy security, technological advancement, and sustainable economic growth.

BofA Co-Chairman Jim Demer mentioned, “We take pride in our long-standing support for the American economy. As America approaches its 250th anniversary, this initiative demonstrates our belief in the future and the investments that will shape it.” He added that the infrastructure supporting the economy will be crucial for growth, job creation, and defining the nation’s next chapter.

The initiative will focus on three main sectors: digital infrastructure, energy and power infrastructure, and core infrastructure.

Digital projects will encompass data centers, computing hardware, chips, and communications. Energy initiatives will target both renewable and conventional power generation, along with energy storage and distribution systems. Core infrastructure efforts will include transportation networks, electricity and energy transmission, grid optimization, water systems, and mining for critical minerals.

BofA noted that the initiative could potentially generate tens of thousands of jobs in construction, manufacturing, technology, and other infrastructure sectors.

In terms of workforce development, the bank has also been investing heavily. In 2025, they allocated nearly $40 million to support over 730 workforce development organizations across 97 U.S. markets. Reports suggest this funding has connected over 90,000 individuals to job opportunities and provided more than 290,000 people access to training and education.

Leading this substantial effort will be BofA’s Global Capital Solutions and Global Infrastructure & Sustainable Finance teams, with support from all eight business divisions within the bank.

The $250 billion goal will encompass eligible primary market lending, investments, capital markets, and advisory transactions from January 1, 2026, until July 4, 2027, in a manner consistent with BofA’s overall $1.5 trillion 10-year sustainable finance objective.
