Obama Responds to Controversial Meme Video

WASHINGTON – Former President Barack Obama has spoken out regarding a troubling meme video that was shared on Trump’s Truth Social. This clip, which has since been removed, portrayed him and the former first lady as monkeys.

During an interview with podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen, Obama expressed his disgust, laughing at the absurdity of it while criticizing Trump for a lack of decorum in the White House. He described the behavior as “very problematic.”

“Most Americans find this type of behavior very troubling,” Obama noted. “Sure, it grabs attention and can be distracting. But as I travel across the country, I see that people still value courtesy and kindness. Yet, there seems to be this circus act happening on social media and TV,” he continued.

The post by Trump on February 5 included a video revisiting the contentious claim that the 2020 election was stolen, ending with the offensive imagery of the Obamas as primates.

White House officials later stated that the video was mistakenly uploaded by a staff member. Trump, addressing reporters, mentioned that he “didn’t see” that part of the video and asserted that he “of course” condemned its racist implications.

Despite the backlash from Congressional Republicans, Trump has not issued an apology to Obama regarding the video. When asked about those upset by the post, he responded, “Well, I don’t have a message. I didn’t know, so I mean, it went up. There’s really no message.”

In his conversation with Cohen, Obama chose not to elaborate on the meme video. Instead, he discussed the Democratic Party’s approach to immigration enforcement in Minnesota as a blueprint for opposing Trump’s tactics.

“It seems like there’s no longer any sense of shame among those who once felt they needed to maintain some sort of decorum and respect for public office,” Obama remarked.

While Obama remained mostly silent about the video during the ensuing controversy, he has previously commented on broader issues during Trump’s second term, including the administration’s rollback on environmental regulations.
