Obama’s Shift to ‘Coach’ Role Sparks Criticism from Clay Travis

Former President Barack Obama’s recent statement about transitioning from a prominent role in the Democratic Party to more of a coaching position has attracted notable criticism from Outkick founder Clay Travis. During a discussion with Sean Hannity, Travis highlighted Obama’s unsuccessful endorsements of Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris. He jokingly speculated that Obama’s lack of effective leadership might, ironically, position him as a “double agent” for the Republican Party.

In another context, Obama expressed his support for Democratic Iowa Representative Josh Turek, urging Iowans to rally behind him for the Senate. “The ball is now in your court, Iowans. Let’s get Josh Turek into the United States Senate,” Obama said towards the end of his address. A light-hearted exchange ensued regarding a video featuring Turek and Obama playfully engaging in a basketball game, where they joked about what they were playing against “Iowa.”

Obama made a nostalgic remark, “I know a thing or two about winning in Iowa,” referencing his victories in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. Turek, notable for his achievements as a four-time Paralympian in wheelchair basketball, faces U.S. House Republican Ashley Hinson in the upcoming general election.

Interestingly, amidst this political landscape, Sen. Joni Ernst announced last year that she would not seek re-election in 2026. The same day, Hinson revealed her candidacy for the U.S. Senate, eventually receiving an endorsement from former President Donald Trump just days later.
