Pop icon and left-wing activist Barbra Streisand responded to the Apalachee High School shooting by promoting the same gun control measures that failed to stop the infamous Columbine High School shooting.
On April 20, 1999, two gunmen opened fire at Columbine High School, killing 13 people. At the time, the federal government's “assault weapons” ban was in full effect.
Despite the “assault weapons” ban failing to stop the Columbine massacre, Streisand is pushing for the ban's renewal in 2024 as a remedy for the Sept. 4, 2024, attack at Apalachee High School.
Streisand not only failed to point out that a federal “assault weapons” ban was in effect at the time of the Columbine attack, but also failed to mention that one of the Columbine attackers used a TEC-DC-9, a gun that the Department of Justice's Institute of Justice argues is legal in the US. Prohibited under the same ban that Streisand wants to have renewed.
However, Streisand is not the only one pushing for an “assault weapons” ban in the wake of the Apalachee High School attack.
Breitbart News noted that California Governor Gavin Newsom (Democrat) is also pushing for such a ban, which he has also pushed for storefront gun restrictions, which would not have had any impact on the Apalachee 14-year-old attacker.
It should be noted that California has had a ban on “assault weapons” since 1989, yet ranked first in “active shooter incidents” in 2021 and 2023.
