Controversy Surrounds Peter Attia at CBS News

Bari Weiss, the Editor-in-Chief at CBS News, is said to have the final decision regarding Peter Attia’s role within the network. As a result of the scrutiny surrounding Attia, the program “60 Minutes” has opted to cancel a rerun of an interview featuring a well-known figure linked to Jeffrey Epstein, originally scheduled for this Sunday.

Paramount Skydance, the new conglomerate led by CEO David Ellison, has paused discussions on potentially terminating Attia’s contract just days after he joined as a contributor. Reports indicate that Weiss believes the decision ultimately rests with her.

Earlier this week, there were reports suggesting Weiss is hesitant to take action against Attia, as new emails surfaced showcasing his crude remarks exchanged with Epstein, a convicted sex offender. It appears she fears backlash from what she describes as a “mob” demanding Attia’s resignation.

Weiss’s stance seems to conflict with recommendations from human resources teams at both Paramount Skydance and CBS News, who have suggested letting Attia go.

Attia, a popular author and media figure, has already stepped down from his role as chief scientific officer at a wellness-focused food company, expressing regret for his past correspondence.

Amid all this, “60 Minutes” reportedly has retracted plans to re-air Norah O’Donnell’s interview with Attia that took place last year. Interestingly, CBS initially intended to air the conversation during the Super Bowl, a major television event.

However, that plan has now been scrapped. The controversy stems from recently released emails that reveal friendly yet troubling exchanges between Attia and Epstein, particularly following Epstein’s plea deal in 2008.

In one email from 2016, Attia jokingly noted that certain health products were low in carbs while waiting on gluten content results. In another, he remarked that Epstein’s life was so extraordinary he couldn’t even tell others about it.

In an effort to address the backlash, Attia issued a detailed apology, asserting that his interactions with Epstein were not criminal in nature, and he specified he had no part in any sexual exploitation.

Attia clarified that he never flew on Epstein’s private plane, nor did he visit his island or attend any illicit parties, though he conveyed regret for the nature of their past communications.

The situation remains fluid, with CBS News, Paramount Skydance, and Attia not yet publicly commenting on the unfolding drama.
