Former basketball player and CNN host Charles Barkley reviews a recent video of Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, drawing laughs when he says the United States has “never been a racist country.” Ta.
In an interview on “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday, Haley insisted that the United States is not and has never been a racist country.
“Our goal is to make sure today is better than yesterday,” she said. “Are we perfect? No. But our goal is to always strive and strive every day to be as perfect as we can be.”
Haley said she grew up as a brown girl in a small town in rural South Carolina and experienced racism in her past. She didn't want to raise her children to feel disadvantaged, she said.

In response, Dr. King said he thinks people are surprised that Haley insists that the United States is not a racist country.

“America was built on racism,” he said. “You can criticize the country. You can still criticize it because this is the greatest country in the world.”

Barclay went on to say that if people turned on the television, they would see that racism continues every day in this country. He argued that Haley, who wants to be president of the United States, cannot claim that the country is not racist.

King noted that Haley is scheduled to host a town hall event with CNN's Jake Tapper in New Hampshire on Thursday. Mr. Barkley said he would like to fill the seats at his own events with an all-black audience.
Dr. King responded, “I feel like there aren't many black people in New Hampshire.''
“I think the reason she said everything was rosy with black people was because she had been in New Hampshire and Iowa for the past two months and had never met a black person,” Barkley said. Ta. “But listen, I'm so disappointed that she said that, because it's 100 percent wrong.”
