Former Attorney General Bill Barr said Wednesday that he will vote “on the Republican ticket” in November’s presidential election.
Barr: “I think it’s my duty to choose the person who I think will cause the least harm to the country.” Said on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.” “And in my mind, I’m voting on the Republican ticket.”
Barr’s comments come despite past criticism of former President Donald Trump, his former boss and potential Republican presidential nominee. Barr said in December that any potential successor to a second Trump administration must oppose the former president’s “abuse of government power.”
“Trump needs people around him to have his back and help him walk the straight and narrow,” Barr said.
“The main thing you can do during his first term is point out to him how this will negatively impact his prospects for a second term,” he continued. “Once he wins a second term, you don’t know what considerations to make to stop bad ideas.”
Barr said Wednesday that he believes “the real danger to the country, the real danger, as I say, to our democracy, is progressive policies.”
“And…Trump may be playing Russian roulette, but in my opinion, a continuation of the Biden administration is national suicide,” Barr continued.
Barr recently called the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) “insane and reckless” and supported President Trump’s request to Congress.
“I think it would be crazy and reckless not to move forward with FISA. It is our primary tool to protect us from terrorist attacks. is blinding us and our allies,” Barr said in an interview with The Hill.
“President Trump’s opposition appears to stem from personal anger rather than logic or reason. The provisions he opposes have nothing to do with the provisions under consideration,” he said. Ta.
