Barry Manilow’s Stage Return Plans Amid Cancer Treatment
Despite facing a string of show cancellations and setbacks, Barry Manilow is eager to get back on stage this June as he continues his cancer treatment.
The 82-year-old singer recently shared that he had to cancel his “Hits Come Home” residency in May at the Westgate Resort in Las Vegas. However, he’s optimistic about the progress of his lung cancer treatment and looks forward to performing again soon.
“Good news! I visited the doctor yesterday, and they told me I’m making great progress and look fantastic!” he expressed with enthusiasm. “I’ve been really dedicated to my training and exercise, and it’s paying off.”
Manilow did mention that while he can’t perform in May, his physician is supportive of a June show in the UK, which brings him joy. “I’ll see everyone in July at Westgate, but for now, I’m headed to England!”
Back in December, Manilow disclosed his diagnosis of early-stage lung cancer after doctors found a concerning spot on his left lung following a bout of bronchitis. He recalled, “I had a tough six-week period with bronchitis, followed by another five weeks of flaring symptoms. After overcoming bronchitis and returning to perform, my doctor ordered an MRI, which revealed the cancerous spot that needed to be removed. Thankfully, we caught it early.”
He humorously added that post-holiday, he’s planning surgery to remove the spot, but the good news is that he won’t need chemotherapy or radiation—just some comfort food and classic TV.
In February, following a challenging surgeon visit, he announced additional shows would be rescheduled, indicating the emotional toll such news can have. “I knew deep down that my body wasn’t ready for a full performance. But when I return, it’ll be a big comeback!”
It’s inspiring to see Manilow’s determination as he prepares for his next chapter while handling his health and artistic commitments. His journey serves as a reminder of the resilience many face in challenging circumstances.
