Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy drops a celebratory bottle of champagne after news breaks that the new owners of left-wing sports site Deadspin have decided to lay off all employees and start over. A video of the opening was posted on social media.
Sitting on a pool float, Mr. Portnoy raged about how often Deadspin suffered mass layoffs and was once again on the brink of bankruptcy.
“Listen, even I’m confused,” Portnoy said.
“How many times can you open the same company bottle?” How many times can you beat Deadspin? How many times can Julie DiCaro lose her job? It seems endless! ” he added.

Mr. DiCaro did not provide a quote; new york post He was a senior writer and editor at Deadspin until its new owners suspended the site this week over the Portnoy teasing issue. She joined the site in 2020.
Deadspin spent much of its time attacking Portnoy and Barstool, accusing the popular sports site and its owners, writers, and celebrities of being sexist and racist.
Last August, for example, Deadspin published a broadside article. saying Sports media claimed that Portnoy had a “negative impact on business.”
Deadspin also found itself caught up in a mess of its own making. In November, senior writer Caron Phillips embarrassed the site by accusing a 9-year-old NFL fan of being a “racist.”
Phillips accused Chiefs fan Holden Armenta of wearing “blackface” at games when an image of a boy wearing an Indians headdress, a Chiefs jersey and black face paint went viral. denounced as “racist”. Mr. Phillips accused the boy, his parents, and the NFL of being racist against both Black people and Native Americans, but what he failed to report was that the boy was wearing the NFL team’s colors of half black and half red. Alluding to Deadspin’s problems, Portnoy wondered how often the left-wing site gets under its thumb.
“But here we are again. A new bottle of champagne…going out of business, being bought out, everyone being fired for the 90th time in a row!” exclaimed Portnoy.
“This is just kicking a dead dog! But you know what? I’m not above that.”
