Bryce Harper Reflects on MLB Brawls and Personal Experience

Bryce Harper recently discussed his involvement in one of the more memorable bench-clearing brawls in baseball, and it seems he’s open to the idea of more. Back in 2017, he found himself in a fistfight with relief pitcher Hunter Strickland, a clash that was rooted in some long-standing tension between them.

On a recent episode of “Bussin’ With The Boys,” Harper revisited that intense moment and shared his thoughts. “I think things like this should happen more often in baseball,” he expressed. “I mean, it might help prevent players from throwing at each other. It’s a bit like hockey, really. If there’s a need to go at it, then why not?”

He acknowledged that, while fighting isn’t the goal on the baseball field, sometimes the situation calls for it. “There comes a time when you think, ‘Hey, it’s just practice at this point.'” His view seems to invite a broader acceptance of such confrontations in the sport.

Harper added that he and Strickland have since moved past their feud. Back in the day, both players faced suspensions — Harper for four games and Strickland for six. Interestingly, he noted that while hockey fights often lead to shorter penalties, the dynamics in baseball can be more complicated.

As Harper approaches his 15th season in Major League Baseball, he boasts a career batting average of .280 and an OPS of .905. His reflections on these past experiences seem to resonate, but they also highlight the complex emotions that come with competitive sports.
