Exposing the Myth of Leftist “Tolerance”
It took a single Bible verse to reveal a critical misconception about leftist “tolerance.”
On June 13, the Dodgers held their annual Pride Night in Los Angeles, celebrating LGBTQ ideology and activism. During this event, the team’s players donned special caps adorned with a rainbow-colored Dodgers logo.
Then, Clayton Kershaw, a ten-time All-Star pitcher and outspoken Christian, decided to personalize his cap. He engraved a rainbow-colored logo alongside the message Gen. 9:12-16.
This act served as a strong reminder that the rainbow, often associated with the LGBTQ community, ultimately belongs to God.
The Biblical Reference
The verses Kershaw referenced are from a well-known biblical narrative.
Following the flood that devastated the earth, God made a covenant with Noah and the entire creation, designating the rainbow as the sign of this promise.
And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me, you and all living creatures with you, and the covenant of all future generations. I put my bow in the clouds, and it becomes a sign of a covenant between me and the earth. Every time I form clouds on Earth, and the clouds appear, I remember my contract between me, you and all living creatures. Water to destroy all living creatures will never be flooded again. The bow is in the clouds, and I see it and remember the lasting covenant between God and all living creatures on earth.”
The Hebrew word for “bow” in Genesis 9 is the same as the term used for weapons in contexts like war and hunting. Interestingly, most Old Testament references link to weaponry, with a notable exception found here and in Ezekiel 1:28.
The significance of the rainbow is profound. It stands as a testament to God’s power, promises, and mercy; it’s not about pride in personal sin or an anti-God ideology.
Leftist Inconsistency
As expected, leftists displayed their inability to tolerate differing beliefs. A post captured their discontent effectively.
“Clayton Kershaw will always be a Dodger, but it’s hard to support him now. Just put on the hat, be a tolerant Christian, and recognize there are people who think differently than you,” one comment read.
The underlying message here is unmistakable: conform and silence your beliefs.
This illustrates a version of “tolerance” demanded by the left. It no longer implies respectful disagreement or allowing others the freedom to live according to their beliefs. Instead, it’s portrayed as a one-sided street with no space for viewpoints outside their own.
Ironically, the left’s demand for “tolerance” relies on a double standard—expecting Christians to accept the LGBTQ agenda while exhibiting intolerance toward Christianity itself. The claim for “tolerance” from the left is often a part of a broader liberal deception, where it becomes clear that their demands are not genuine.
Unwavering Truth
For many on the left, “tolerance” equates to silence and complete submission. Yet, Christianity can’t subscribe to such terms.
Faith in Jesus is all-encompassing. Christians contend that Jesus is the ruler of everything, including aspects like culture, identity, and sexuality.
To truly embrace the left’s version of “tolerance,” Christians would need to shift away from their faith and the moral truths it holds. This notion of tolerance tries to confine Christianity to a private and passive domain, reducing Jesus to a figure who never imposes demand. The imaginary “tolerant” Jesus proposed by the left never contradicts LGBTQ ideology.
However, the authentic representation of Jesus does not align with the leftist agenda. True Christianity stands firmly on its truths, speaking confidently and refusing to compromise. When God’s truths are co-opted for anti-God ideologies, it becomes imperative for Christians to respond with wisdom and clarity.
This is precisely what Kershaw exemplified. His bold declaration of biblical truths counters the deceptions inherent in the left’s narrative.
Reclaiming the Rainbow
In today’s cultural landscape, many Christians confront pressure to dilute their beliefs. The left often favors those who quietly conform and retreat, while scorn is aimed at those who exercise their religious rights and stand firmly on biblical truths.
Nonetheless, Kershaw chose not to back down. His simple act of protest rejuvenated the true essence of the rainbow, underscoring the left’s hypocrisy around “tolerance,” and offering a model for fellow Christians on how to navigate a culture that often dismisses biblical truth.
We should take inspiration from Kershaw’s example.
Let’s reclaim the rainbow. Stand unwaveringly for God’s truths without seeking affirmation from the left.
