Los Angeles Mayor Signs Order to Support Immigrants
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass took action on Friday by signing an executive order aimed at bolstering support for immigrant communities. This comes as a response to what she describes as attacks from the Trump administration that have unlawfully targeted individuals residing in the U.S.
The purpose of this order is to provide stronger protection for the city’s residents, particularly during instances of immigration enforcement. Bass noted that federal agencies are required to share information about raids and their associated costs to taxpayers.
At a news conference, she stated, “We need this executive order to guide our cities on how to safeguard themselves against the federal actions.” She expressed concern over ongoing attacks, saying there is no clear indication of when or where they might occur next.
LA Mayor Engages in Controversial Legal Action Against Immigration Policies
“This directive will equip city employees to handle situations involving immigrant staff,“ she explained. The order also sets a framework for training city departments in compliance with Los Angeles’ Sanctuary City Ordinances.
Additionally, plans for providing cash assistance to those impacted by these enforcement actions are in motion. Bass mentioned that immigration rights organizations will distribute cash cards worth several hundred dollars in roughly a week. Interestingly, she clarified that these funds are from charitable sources, not the city’s budget.
A White House spokesperson responded to Bass’s actions, questioning their validity and suggesting that recent immigration initiatives had effectively removed violent offenders and safeguarded minors from exploitation. “Instead of aiding these kids or prioritizing American citizens, Bass seems to be fortifying the positions of undocumented immigrants,” they remarked.
Criticism of LA Mayor’s Stance on Immigration Enforcement
Some critics argue that Bass has hindered attempts to address crime linked to illegal immigration. The Trump administration has been at odds with several cities, including Los Angeles, which have taken legal steps against their immigration enforcement practices.
On Thursday, immigration officials conducted a raid on a cannabis farm in Ventura County, where they reportedly found undocumented minors among those working there. The farm is now under scrutiny for potential child labor violations.
Earlier in the week, approximately 100 National Guard and immigration officials were active around MacArthur Park, alleging a connection to local crime. However, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino denied any wrongdoing on their part.
Bovino mentioned, “We won’t stop our actions; we’ll be present anywhere at any time in Los Angeles.” So, it seems the situation is quite tense with multiple sides asserting their positions.
As of now, Fox News Digital has yet to receive a response from Bass’s office regarding these developments.
