As Iran launched a massive number of ballistic missiles at Israel and Israel launched a ground invasion of southern Lebanon last fall, BBC news presenter Anna Foster calmly locked in the tense and complicated events of the 10 o'clock news from Beirut without an auto qua.
Convinced to the senior BBC boss that she was responsible for her experience in the Middle East and her ability to handle the pressures of such sensitive international stories, she was sure she made her the right person to host the company's flagship radio news program.
Foster will be the fifth member of the presentation team for the BBC Radio 4's Today program. This is the list that has run out of four permanent members since Mischarfsain's surprising decision to leave the BBC late last year.
Foster's name wasn't the ones who weren't rumored to be involved in the running, but BBC Insider said his reporting skills in the Middle East meant he had been highly rated for a while. This was brought into the house by her live anchor from Beirut, the heart of international news after Hezbollah's longtime leader, Hassan Nasrara, was killed in an Israeli airstrike the previous day.
One presenter, BBC news, Foster, will begin an announcement today starting next month. This means that the program will ultimately have a full presentation lineup, along with Justin Webb, Nick Robinson, Amorulajan and Emma Barnett.
Many were hoping that this post would go to Katya Adler, the European editor of the BBC. Both she and North American editor Sarah Smith had previously intervened as presenters today. Royal correspondent Johnny Dimond and business editor Simon Jack also recently announced the show, but appointing one of them would have only one woman left on the regular roster.
Some senior BBC figures were eager to have companies poach big people from another broadcasting station. She moderated the first election discussion between Rishi Snack and Kiel's priority and was considered by many as the real winner of the encounter.
Another figure discussed was Sky's Sophy Ridge, recently announced as the presenter of the year at the Royal Television Society Awards. John McAndrew, program director for BBC News, knows Ridge's work at Sky. He has just been given great strength within the company, leading the new BBC Live and Daily News division.
However, Foster's knowledge of Middle Eastern international news and expertise, previously serving as a correspondent for the region, has placed a great premium. She also previously hosted the Radio 5 Live Drive Time Show to hone her radio presentation skills.
Foster's appointment ends the long-term saga of finding a Hussain replacement. Insiders were extremely frustrated within the company that they were unable to maintain Hussain. She joined Bloomberg as an editor and set out to host a global interview series.
According to the latest industry figures, today's program's weekly audience reached 573 million. It has declined significantly since it reached 7.5 million in 2016 in the aftermath of the EU referendum, but its performance is relatively stable. Also, more people are listening to it later via the app.
After the newsletter promotion
The BBC said TV audiences can expect to see Foster in the Breaking News as the main story breaks. “We are pleased to be able to join our team today, with fewer opportunities for journalists today than introducing us today,” Foster said.
She said: It is a program that is so loved by so many people that I can't wait to be part of it. ”
“We've got a lot of effort into making this a reality,” said Mohit Bakaya, the controller for Radio 4. “Anna is a great addition to today's team. She brings important international reporting experiences when Radio 4 listeners are in very urgent need. She is an incredible journalist and skilled presenter and can't wait to hear her alongside Nick, Amol, Justin and Emma.
