Bear Attack in Idaho Injures Two
Authorities reported that a young bear injured two individuals outside their residence in a small town in Idaho on Friday. This incident took place around 3:30 AM in the Sunset Heights subdivision near Salmon, a community with a population of just over 3,000.
One of the injured was transported via helicopter to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center located in Idaho Falls, as stated by Idaho Fish and Game.
Following the attack, the Idaho Fish and Game was alerted by the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office, which prompted them to activate the Wildlife Human Attack Response Team to secure the scene. Eventually, the bear, along with its sibling and what was believed to be their mother, were located using a professional houndsman and were subsequently euthanized.
The sheriff’s office emphasized the importance of preventing bear encounters by suggesting that residents eliminate outdoor food odors, secure all potential entry points, and use various deterrents around their properties.
It was reported that the victims were attacked while they were on their porch, according to local media.
In a broader context, the department advised residents to take precautions by securing food and trash, locking garbage, cleaning outdoor grills, removing bird feeders, managing fruit trees, and utilizing deterrent mats.
Earlier in July, a jogger and his dog were attacked by a bear in a state park in Fremont County, which is southeast of Lemhi County. Fortunately, the jogger managed to walk away unharmed, and his dog was not injured. However, the bear involved in that incident was never found.
