Bear Breaks into California Home to Steal Oreos

A bear with an apparent sweet tooth is causing concern for local residents in Monrovia, California.

On Friday, the animal broke into a home on Canyon Crest Drive and left with a pack of Oreos. It apparently climbed in through a window and left with the sweet treats, which residents say are the animal’s favorite snack, ABC 7 report Sunday.

Resident Vina Cooley said the incident scared her because the bear got very close.

“But lately he’s gotten a little too friendly with us and he’s opened our neighbors’ cars to get their groceries out, he’s taken boxes of Oreos, and that’s how he got his name,” said Khoury, who is used to seeing bears in the area. Said NBC Los Angeles.

“We’re fine with them being around, it’s just that this one is a little too comfortable,” she added.

“American black bears live in a variety of habitats, including natural areas, rural and residential areas. “It’s kind of scary because the perpetrator actually broke into the house. They literally took the screen off the window so even if you have a screen, I feel like you can’t leave the window open. It’s a little unsettling,” Khoury said of the incident that happened at her neighbor’s home on Friday.

ABC 7 reports that no injuries have been reported in recent bear encounters.
