Bear settles in a Southern California town as residents welcome their fierce new companion.

A bear has made itself at home in a Ventura County town this week, delighting locals as they tracked its adventures in their backyards and paid tribute on social media. The bear, rather mischievous, was spotted roaming through Fillmore—rolling into driveways, sneaking under trampolines, and even lounging in hot tubs, according to local reports.

Residents watched the animal’s antics from their homes, with some even choosing to feed it fish, an unconventional but entertaining approach.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first bear sighting in the area; another bear was seen just three weeks ago, although it’s unclear if it’s the same one.

As excitement grew around their new furry neighbor, locals shared numerous humorous edits online, depicting the bear enjoying rides in cars or feasting at taco trucks. One playful commenter quipped about the bear, suggesting that it might be a tough job to catch it.

However, the bear’s time in the neighborhood was cut short on Wednesday when wildlife officials arrived to tranquilize it for a health assessment. Initial evaluations indicated the bear might have minor injuries to its snout.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife plans to relocate the bear, affix a tag, and track its movements throughout Southern California to ensure its safety and that of the local community.

Officials have encouraged residents to take preventive measures, such as securing trash and keeping pets indoors. If a bear is encountered, they advised remaining calm, backing away slowly, and, importantly, avoiding direct interactions.

As it stands, this bear has certainly captured the hearts of local residents, albeit briefly. Whether they’ll see it again remains to be seen, though the thrill it brought—all those comical moments captured on video—will linger in their memories for a while.
