Bearded man who seemed to support the shooting of Charlie Kirk says he shouted 'USA' to make a 'distraction'

In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s fatal shooting, a bearded man seen in a viral video at the Utah Valley University event has come forward, claiming his actions weren’t meant to endorse the horrific incident. He shouted “America” as a sort of distraction intended to “save a life.”

This individual, who has not been formally identified but has linked himself to the footage, shared a two-minute explanation of his behavior. He describes his initial reaction: “When I first heard those sharp sounds, I thought maybe it was just fireworks or some sort of prank.” Interestingly, he was wearing the same tan hat featured in the viral clip.

He recalled, “I kept looking toward the horizon because of the smoke. When nothing else happened, I figured it had to be gunfire,” he said in a rather flat tone.

The suspected shooter, identified as Tyler Robinson, was arrested a few days following the incident in connection with Kirk’s death.

In a moment of distress, the man said, “I believed Charlie was badly hurt.” He explained further, “I stood up and shouted ‘America.’ It wasn’t meant to provoke but to demonstrate strength, hoping to rally others and distract from the chaos, which might have helped reduce panic and protect lives.”

While he claims to have only a minimal interest in Kirk’s views, he insists that he “never intended to celebrate anyone getting hurt.”
