Bears-Chiefs trade grades for Joe Thuney deal as Chicago rebuilds its offense line

Many people after losses in the Super Bowl Kansas City Chiefs Overhaul their offensive line. QB Patrick Mahomes is surrounded by all the games and never felt comfortable as the Eagles hit their path to a Super Bowl victory. But no one was expecting it this To be part of their plans.

According to athletic Dianna Russini, the Chiefs will be left guard Joe Thuney for All-Pro Chicago Bears With the pick in the fourth round of 2026.

At first, this news shocked me. Sunny is the Chiefs' best lineman, finishing the season and playing security guards when the chief desperately needed him, working on a high level. However, Sunny is 33, the last year of his contract, and after giving the franchise tag to Trey Smith and paying a lot of money to Center Creed Humphrey, the majority of the caps inside the other holes (particularly the left tackle) are probably not the best. Thuney wanted an extension, but he probably gets it from Bears. It is also expected that they will regain the fourth round pick in 2026. Thuney's age and upcoming New Deals have kept its prices down.

Behind the scenes, I really like this for bears. They entered the offseason, knowing they had to spend a lot of resources on the offensive line. They had multiple holes above their spine with security guards and centers very poor, but what they did this offseason is filling the gap with proven veterans. Signing Jonah Jackson from the Bears is a risk to some extent given how poor he was last season, but he plays center and is more suited to security. Adding Sunny on top of it fixed both guard spots for the short-term future.

What's really interesting about this is in the NFL Draft. Many thought the bear would pick an offensive lineman on the 10th overall pick, but both guard spots are full and they still swing on tackles? I don't believe in Braxton Jones Lt, but I might prefer him well next to Thuney. In a draft mock after me, I sent them Texas A&M It's Edgeschemer Stewart, but Michael Williams of Georgia also performs here. Is this another sleazy spot for RB Ashton Janti in Boise?

With the Chiefs, I wonder if they're getting offensive to fix their offensive line. Kingsley Smattare is planning to fill out the left guard for Sunny, and getting a tackle in this draft class makes a lot of sense. With my ock I gave them OhioJosh Simmons, 31. But it depends very much on him falling there. Can Simmons' teammate Donovan Jackson perform here? He started out as a security guard, but has an incredible playoff run with tackles and is a guy who might be seen as a tackle in the NFL. Can the Chiefs trade for guys like Armando members of Missouri? Going from 31 to 10 is a massive jump, but for the Chief, it may be necessary to maintain strangulation in the AFC.

Either way, this deal has quite a lot of significance to the NFL Draft and quite a lot of significance to how both teams deal with free agency.
