It's only a matter of time before someone blows a gasket and puts an end to this miserable Bears season.
That's what wide receiver DJ Moore predicted after Chicago suffered an eight-game losing streak with a 30-12 road loss to the division rival Vikings on Monday night.
“Nobody wants to blow a gasket,” Moore said. According to the Chicago Tribune. “But soon someone will blow a gasket.”
Chicago suffered a shutout loss in the first half for the third consecutive game Monday night, but showed signs of resurgence in the final two quarters.
Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams completed 18 of 31 attempts for 191 yards and one touchdown.
However, he was sacked twice, had a lost fumble, and his passes to open receivers were often inaccurate.
After taking a hit from Vikings linebacker Jihad Ward in the second half, Williams, the Bears' No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft, was seemingly benched.
That moment prompted ESPN's Troy Aikman to express concern that the cost of a dysfunctional team this season is weighing heavily on the former University of Southern California star.
“We were watching him on the sidelines, he was grimacing, he was in a lot of pain. You looked at him and you could tell he was a defeated man,” Aikman said on the broadcast. .
“…What you’re concerned about is the rookie quarterback lacking confidence.”
What started as a promising season continued to unravel, culminating in the firing of offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and head coach Matt Eberflus.
“What I've learned through all of this is that you have to be yourself.” [stuff] And when you try to get other people to do certain things, they become unprepared. So I have to take care of myself [stuff] And just do my job,” star tight end Cole Kmet told the Tribune.
“And if other players aren't doing their job, or other guys aren't doing their job, it's their fault. We haven't performed clean enough. No, and that happens a lot in NFL games. We're on a hell of a losing streak at the moment.”
Kmet, the Bears' second-round pick in 2020, was trying to hold his head up as the losses piled up.
“You're questioning your process and the way you do things. I think you're right. I think I've been doing the right things throughout this week, but clearly the results weren't worth it. “It was tough,” he said.
