Bears select Caleb Williams with No. 1 pick of 2024 NFL Draft

The Chicago Bears have fulfilled their expectations by acquiring USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

For months, the Bears have been pegged as the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner. That shifted to a deadly lock last month when the team’s previous 2021 first-round pick, Justin Fields, was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Now that the nomination has been officially decided, Williams will have the pedigree to change the course of the franchise as a rookie joins the Windy City.

A five-star recruit out of Gonzaga University High School in Washington, D.C., Williams began his college career at the University of Oklahoma in 2021, where he threw for 1,912 yards, 21 touchdowns, and four interceptions in 11 games. .

When Lincoln Riley became the Trojans’ head coach in 2022, Williams followed him to Southern California and his productivity skyrocketed.

Williams threw for 4,537 yards, 42 touchdowns, and five interceptions during his Heisman season, completing 66.6 percent. He threw for 462 yards and five touchdowns against Tulane, capping off a great season with a bowl win.

The Trojans and Williams didn’t have the same success in 2023, but he threw for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions.

USC lost its final three games of the season, and Williams cried with his mother in the stands after the loss to Washington on Nov. 4, 2023, in which he caught three touchdowns and 312 passing yards. is infamous.

Williams came under a lot of flak for this, but he believed it was not a sign of weakness, but rather a desire to win.

“I was sitting there, devastated, defeated,” he recalled of the moment. “But when I jumped up and touched her mother, she was immediately gone.”
