Twenty years ago, the world first met Cady Heron, Regina George, and Plastics on “Mean Girls.” The film has since become a cult classic.

But the new version of Mean Girls, which was released just last Friday, has already disappointed many, including “fan of the original” Lauren Chen.

“Guys, this is a terrible movie,” she sighs, pointing out that “there's someone next to me.” [her] I left the theater halfway through. ”

Unlike the original, which was chock-full of hilarious and iconic moments, this new movie “failed to make.” [Lauren] Laugh out loud, despite the fact that “they left behind a lot of original jokes.”

“It's hard to do comedic acting that actually makes people laugh. Unfortunately, I feel like a lot of the actors in this movie were probably chosen because of their singing ability, but the comedic acting wasn't there. ” Lauren explains.

For those who don't know, this movie features basically the same plotline as the original – “cliques, toxic mean girl situations, dating, [and] “Crashes'' is both a remake and a musical version.

Lauren said that while “musical taste is subjective” and that “musical numbers can really enhance the story or strengthen the plotline,” she doesn't like the music for the new film Mean Girls. is “very forgettable” and admits that the film “doesn't really do anything”. .

“As for how the songs actually sound, to be honest, as soon as the songs ended, I immediately forgot about each song,” she laments. She further stated that there are “no characters, situations, or scenes that are enhanced by musical numbers” and that some songs even “detract from the best parts of the original film.”

For example, in the original film, one of the most climactic scenes occurs after all the women in the school are forced to attend a workshop because the Plastics' “Burn Book” is exposed. After Regina learns that Cady is a double agent and that basically the whole school hates her, she storms out of the meeting.

It's a scene that anyone who saw the original will remember. However, the producers of the new film decided to “almost completely cut that scene and replace it with a song by Janis about female empowerment.”

“In this song, one of the most important interactions in the movie is once again transposed… Janis instead sings about how gender roles are basically the responsibility of everything,” Lauren says. He pointed out that the movie clearly hints at virtue.

On the same note, she added, “It's been 20 years since the original Mean Girls movie, so naturally everyone is browner and gayer in the remake.”

In addition to Damian being played by a black actor and Janice being a lesbian, “a lot of the jokes about being gay were also removed.”

“In the original movie, the message is: do not have It’s okay to bully people for being gay,” says Lauren. Rather, “The message is that it's not okay to be bullied for any reason, but I feel like we're in 2024 because we're so bullied.” [politically correct]I don't even want to put in scenes where people are bullied for being gay, even if it's to show that it's wrong because they have to bully gay people. ”

But Lauren's frustrations don't end there. Watch the video below to see her full review.
