Bengals bring Joe Flacco on board from the Browns

Cincinnati Bengals Seek to Turn Season Around

The Cincinnati Bengals are in urgent need of a turnaround this season. After Jake Browning struggled in his first three starts following Joe Burrow’s injury, the Bengals have made a significant move: they’ve signed Joe Flacco from the Cleveland Browns.

This deal was officially announced on Tuesday. Flacco had recently been benched in favor of Dillon Gabriel, leading some to question his viability as a quarterback option. But, given Cincinnati’s current situation, he may prove to be exactly what they need.

In his four games this season, Flacco managed to complete 58.1% of his passes, racking up 815 yards with two touchdowns and six interceptions. Meanwhile, Browning has taken over for Burrow, who will be sidelined until at least December due to a toe injury. Browning had a decent start to the season, throwing for 241 yards and two touchdowns, but unfortunately, those numbers came with three interceptions. His latest performance against the Detroit Lions saw him amass 251 yards, toss three touchdowns, but, again, he had three interceptions, ending in a 37-24 loss.

The Bengals currently hold a 2-3 record this season, a disappointing follow-up after missing the playoffs last year. Their defense, which had already shown weaknesses, appears to be struggling even more. They allowed an average of 25.5 points per game last season, but that number has now crept up to 31.2—ranking them as one of the worst in the league alongside teams like the Jets and Ravens.

On the Browns’ side, this shift has made Shedeur Sanders the backup quarterback. Even though Gabriel has been named the starter, Flacco is now the backup, a move that could potentially shift gears for him in Cincinnati. It’s not confirmed yet whether Flacco will step into a starting role for the Bengals, as currently, Brett Rypien is the backup due to Burrow’s injury.

The path ahead isn’t simple for the Bengals, who will face the Packers in Green Bay this weekend, followed by a home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers the next Thursday. Fans and players alike will be watching closely to see how these changes unfold.
