Bernie Moreno Critiques Democrats’ Stance on Israel
During a recent Breitbart News Fight Club Roundtable, Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) expressed concerns that Democrats are leveraging the situation in Israel to further an anti-American narrative. He called for increased support for Israel and other U.S. allies, speaking with Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow and Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle.
Boyle posed a question to Moreno regarding how to tackle anti-Semitism within the Democratic Party while ensuring a strong relationship with Israel.
In response, Moreno referenced a past vote on the issue, noting a trend within the Democrats’ support against Israel. “When I first arrived in the Senate about a year and a half ago, 17 Democrats aligned with Bernie Sanders. That number increased to 27, then 40, and just yesterday, 46 out of 47 Democrats voted in a way that reflects that sentiment,” Moreno stated.
He continued, expressing disappointment about a recent loss in the Republican conference’s unity. “Before yesterday’s vote, we had managed to keep all 53 Republicans together, but unfortunately, we lost one.”
“Interestingly, John Fetterman stands out as the sole Democrat who does not subscribe to the belief that we should abandon Israel,” Moreno added. “He doesn’t buy into the narratives promoted by individuals like Hasan Piker and Abdul El Sayed.”
Moreno remarked on the broader implications of the situation, suggesting it extends beyond Israel to how anti-Americanism is being communicated. “It’s quite sad, really. They use Israel as a tool to suggest that America is fundamentally flawed, portraying a narrative that there is something deeply wrong with the U.S.,” he noted.
He asserted that while the interests of the United States should always come first, it is essential to support allies like Israel. “Our military priorities are to benefit American citizens, but Israel is a staunch ally. Supporting our friends is crucial, especially in an environment filled with adversaries who pose threats to our safety,” Moreno concluded.
