Bernie Sanders dislikes wealthy elites, unless he benefits: ‘Do you expect me to stand in line at United?’

Interview Recap: Bret Baier and Bernie Sanders

On May 7, Bret Baier from Fox News sat down with Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to discuss his collaboration with New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on their “Fighting Oligarchy” tour.

During the chat, Baier referenced a report that revealed Sanders’ campaign committee, Friends of Bernie Sanders, had spent over $221,000 on private jet travel in the first quarter of 2025.

This drew a reaction from Pat Gray, who finds it particularly frustrating when politicians are called out for hypocrisy. He noted a particularly awkward moment when Sanders tried to explain his use of private jets.

Baier challenged Sanders by asking, “When was the last time you saw Donald Trump campaigning at National Airport?” to which Sanders replied defensively, stating, “We’re running a campaign that includes multiple meetings each week. This is how we reach out to 30,000 people. Do you think we’re waiting in line at United?” He didn’t sound apologetic at all.

Gray expressed his disdain for such double standards, pointing out that Sanders’ criticism of Trump doesn’t hold up since Trump has never claimed to be a champion of income equality.

Gray emphasized, “Donald Trump isn’t a socialist; you are! That makes you the hypocrite here.” He also noted the contradiction in Sanders’ stance on climate change given his private jet travels, which are known for their high carbon emissions.

In his view, it’s no surprise that Trump isn’t scrutinized for his plane usage, as he doesn’t claim to care about climate change. Meanwhile, Sanders, who advocates for climate action, finds himself using private jets.

Gray humorously remarked, “Do you expect me to mingle with the unwashed masses? No, no—not when I’m part of the upper crust.” This highlights the stark contrast between Sanders’ rhetoric and actions.

The discussion continued with Keith Marinack chiming in, affirming that Sanders’ actions reek of hypocrisy.
