Beverly D’Angelo Reflects on Motherhood Over Career

Beverly D’Angelo, who shares twin children with Al Pacino—Anton and Olivia—born in 2001, recently spoke about her parental priorities in an interview with a magazine. The couple, who had a relationship from 1996 to 2003, chose to have their kids later in life. D’Angelo mentioned how, in hindsight, she could’ve pursued more acting roles but felt her focus was rightfully on raising her children.

“I think I could have had a bigger career if I had been more dedicated to it,” she explained. “But honestly, my kids took precedence.” They had the twins after using in vitro fertilization (IVF) in 1997. D’Angelo recalled how becoming parents felt like a new chapter for them both, given their age at the time.

“We were like, ‘Oh, we’ve done so much already, let’s do this,’” she reflected. D’Angelo emphasized that she didn’t expose her kids to the chaotic world of Hollywood. Instead, she aimed for a more grounded upbringing.

In addition to the twins, Pacino has three other children, including his first daughter, Julie, born in 1989, and another son, Roman, born in June 2023. D’Angelo described her journey with Pacino as one filled with a unique bond that extends well beyond traditional relationships.

“I mean, we fell in love 27 years ago,” she said. They lived together for seven years and share a deep connection as co-parents. Despite their separation, they maintain strong ties, supported by a love for their children and a willingness to navigate the complexities of their relationship.

Ultimately, D’Angelo highlighted the significance of their bond: “The love we have for our children is what helps us resolve any challenges and continue to grow as a family.” Even after years apart, the friendship forged from their time together has had a lasting impact on both their lives.
