Legal Battle Continues for Bezos and Sanchez
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are seeking close to $190,000 in legal fees from Lauren’s estranged brother, Michael Sanchez, as part of an ongoing court dispute.
According to reports, the couple, along with their legal team, filed a claim in California Superior Court on July 28. They are asking for $182,374 in attorney fees and an additional $8,182 in other costs.
This feud has been described by Lauren’s lawyers as a “campaign of harassment” from Michael, who they claim has been trying to secure an unfair financial settlement over the years.
The case has its roots in a lawsuit filed over honor and loss, which arose after Michael was accused of leaking private communications and images to the media.
The couple argues that they deserve these fees due to Michael’s “frivolous” allegations, which included a bizarre claim regarding his alleged death. Their attorneys’ hourly rates are between $549 and $1,125.
For those unfamiliar, California’s anti-SLAPP law allows for the early dismissal of lawsuits seen as attempts to censor free speech, which appears to be relevant in this case.
This family drama began to unfold after Bezos’s split from his former spouse, Mackenzie Scott. Michael has already been linked to the controversy, especially after the National Enquirer intimated they would publish explicit content about Bezos. In a twist, Bezos himself decided to reveal the details first.
Michael has refuted the claim about leaking “a sub-belt selfie,” though he didn’t address other allegations of leaking information.
The New York Times reported in October 2018 that Michael had a private agreement with the American media. In February 2020, he sued Bezos for honor loss, but a ruling in November 2020 favored Bezos, although the conflict rages on.
Despite winning legal fees in the past, Bezos has faced ongoing challenges related to this situation.
Meanwhile, Jeff and Lauren recently celebrated their wedding in Venice, Italy, which reportedly cost around $50 million and featured celebrity guests like Oprah Winfrey and Orlando Bloom.
They’ve since been spotted enjoying life in Europe, even partying in Ibiza and sharing a double date with Leonardo DiCaprio and his girlfriend.
In a recent statement, Michael labeled Bezos and Lauren as “liars and con artists,” criticizing the judicial system as corrupt while claiming a personal victory.
