Bible Sales Reach All-Time High in the U.S. in 2025 as People Look for Hope in Uncertain Times

In 2025, Bible sales in the U.S. reached an all-time high, driven by social unrest, wars, and a shifting cultural landscape that has many questioning the future.

According to Circana BookScan, Bible sales hit 19 million copies, marking a 21-year peak. This represents a 12 percent increase from the previous year and is double the amount sold in 2019, which was just before the pandemic hit.

Last year’s top-selling Bible for adults was the Invitation New Testament from B&H Publishing. In the children’s category, the Action Bible: God’s Story of Salvation, a graphic novel by Sergio Carriello published by David C. Cook, was the leader.

The UK also saw record Bible sales, climbing 134 percent since 2008, the year tracking started, according to Sam Richardson, CEO of Christian publisher SPCK. The best-selling title there was the ESV Bible published by Crossway.

Brenna Connor, the director at Circana, noted that this increasing interest in religious materials seems tied to a broader search for hope and community, hinting that more individuals are turning towards faith-based resources for guidance in tumultuous times.

Richardson added that significant global changes—like the aftermath of COVID-19, ongoing conflicts, advancements in AI, and the rise in mental health issues—are prompting many to reflect on their spiritual beliefs and the meaning of life.

He remarked that the sustained rise in Bible sales indicates a growing number of people are exploring Christianity and forming their own understandings of its teachings.

Mark Schoenwald, CEO of HarperCollins Christian Publishing, mentioned that their projections suggest three years of double-digit growth in all Bible formats, from children’s versions to in-depth study Bibles. He pointed out that the NIV Study Bible recently reached over 10 million copies in circulation, suggesting that readers are engaging deeply with the text.
