President Biden has been praised by the left as an altruistic “patriot” for dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.

In recent weeks, questions about Biden’s mental fitness and ability to serve another term have dominated the national conversation, with many in the media pitted against him. On Sunday, Biden finally agreed he would not seek reelection, and was portrayed as an American hero for quickly stepping down from office.

“What a man, what a patriot. What a selfless act of dedication to his country,” MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow said Sunday.

“He’s a great president. He’s gotten us out of COVID. At a time when the world was suffering economically from COVID, he’s produced the best recovery from COVID of any major country on earth,” Maddow continued. “The Biden economy is literally the envy of the world.”

Tim Graham, editor in chief of NewsBusters, thinks it’s a bit much for liberals to praise a man Democrats are begging him to step down.

“There’s nothing more amusing than Democrats spending three weeks trying to drag Biden out of the race, and then him finally giving in and showing the honor and class and patriotism of George Washington,” Graham told Fox News Digital.

“If he was going to step down with dignity, why didn’t he do it a few weeks ago? He’s at the center of an ugly Democratic squabble, and they want to appear to be in a moment of calm,” Graham continued. “This is a Potemkin Zen moment.”

Maddow was not alone in shedding praise for Biden, with liberal commentators joining leading Democrats such as former President Barack Obama in calling him a “patriot of the highest order.”

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace called Biden’s decision an “act of sacrifice,” and CNN commentator Van Jones grew visibly emotional while declaring his love for Biden.

“I love this man, I care about this man, and it’s been hard to sit here every day and talk about him as if he was just a problem to the party,” Jones said.

“I love Joe Biden and I appreciate what he’s done,” Jones added. “That’s leadership. That’s patriotism. That’s putting country first.”

As the news broke, MSNBC’s Jen Psaki, Biden’s White House press secretary, said Biden is “a great person and a great president.”

Jennifer Rubin, a Washington Post columnist and vocal anti-Trump stalwart, called it “Biden’s finest moment.”

Jon Favreau, co-host of “Pod Save America” and a former speechwriter for President Barack Obama, praised Biden for his selflessness.

“This was a courageous and selfless decision. The President did what he has done for the last four years: listened to the American people and put the country’s interests above his own,” Favreau wrote.

Presidential historian Jon Meacham called Biden’s decision “an act of self-sacrifice on par with that of George Washington, who also left office.”

Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann called Biden a “hero,” while far-left actor Mark Hamill said he has “a record of achievement unmatched in our lifetimes.”

Liberal activist Michael Moore praised Biden’s “selfless act,” saying he would be “respected and remembered for years to come.”

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., said during an appearance on CNN that Biden is “one of the most important presidents in history.”

Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” told viewers she was “really saddened” by the news.

“Joe Biden is a patriot. I love him and his family, and I love what he’s done for our country,” she said.

ABC News’ “The View” was also full of Biden love on Monday.

“I think it shows what kind of politician he is, what kind of patriot he is, and that he can put country above his own ego,” Hostin said.
