The incident comes amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel following Israel’s assassination of a Hamas leader in Iran.

National security officials worry that Iran could attack at any time.

“I certainly won’t comment on what Iran may or may not be planning,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, “but as we’ve said over the past few days, and as the focus of our diplomatic discussions, we continue to make it clear to Iran that they must not escalate this conflict. They should not take any further escalatory steps. Such steps are not in Iran’s interest. They are not in the interest of the broader region.”

Meanwhile, it is unclear when lethal aid will be sent to Saudi Arabia, or what weapons of war it will be provided with.

Biden seems keen to prove his worth on one count: ensuring that America is no longer the world’s leading arms trafficker.
