President Biden’s re-election campaign on Friday responded to former President Trump’s press conference slamming the outcome of his hush money trial, arguing that his reaction to his conviction should prove he “cannot be president.”
“America has just watched a confused, desperate and defeated Donald Trump ramble on about his personal grievances and lies about our justice system, leading everyone to one clear conclusion: this man cannot be president of the United States,” Biden communications director Michael Tyler said in a statement.
Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts in New York on Thursday and, in a lengthy statement on Friday, blasted Judge Juan Marchan and District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat, who tried the case.
He said the trial was a “fraud” and “unjust” and vowed to appeal the conviction.
The Biden campaign responded by saying Trump was only focused on himself and was trying to distinguish himself from the president.
“That’s what Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are fighting for. Donald Trump is sowing chaos, attacking the rule of law, fighting for the only thing he cares about in this world, which is Donald Trump,” Tyler said.
The Biden campaign has used Trump’s criminal conviction to call him a “convicted felon” to raise funds for the 2024 presidential election.
Biden also posted on social platform X, calling for donations, saying, “There’s only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: the ballot box.”
