Democratic Texas Rep. Veronica Escobar suggested Friday that deporting illegal immigrants would have a negative economic impact.
President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump both visited the border and spoke on Thursday. Escobar, co-chair of Biden’s 2024 re-election campaign, criticized President Trump’s rhetoric on “CNN Newsroom with Jim Acosta,” emphasized the economic importance of immigrants in the workforce and called for forced immigration. “Democrats have been proactive for decades, not only on border security overall, but also on meeting our workforce needs and remaining a nation of immigrants. Immigration is an economic imperative for us. “It’s a good thing,” Escobar said. “The current situation was created by Republicans and we need solutions. But what President Trump is suggesting is frightening. We want to take us back to a time when people were afraid to be in their own country just because they belonged.”
