The Biden campaign said it had raised more than $28 million ahead of a fundraiser featuring celebrities including actor George Clooney.
In addition to Clooney, actress Julia Roberts, late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel and other celebrities are scheduled to attend the fundraiser Saturday night along with President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama.
The Biden campaign said it had already raised more than $28 million ahead of the event. CBS News.
That’s more than the $26 million Biden raised at a campaign fundraiser in March alongside former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
According to the outlet, other celebrities expected to take part in the fundraiser include actors Jack Black and Jason Bateman, actress Connie Britton and singer Sheryl Lee Ralph.
The outlet reported that the fundraiser will feature “moderated interviews with Biden and Obama by Kimmel” and will focus on health care issues.
Health care is expected to be a focus at Saturday’s star-studded event, which will feature interviews with Biden and Obama and be hosted by Kimmel. Kimmel has been a public advocate for the Affordable Care Act passed by Obama and Biden since his newborn son underwent open-heart surgery in 2017.
Biden’s star-studded fundraiser took place as the president was attending the G7 summit in Italy.
Breitbart News previously reported that Biden would skip a peace summit hosted by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to attend a fundraiser with Clooney and other celebrities.
On Biden’s behalf, Vice President Kamala Harris and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan attended the Ukraine peace summit with President Zelensky.
Biden’s fundraising comes as the president’s approval ratings hit an all-time low in recent memory: Biden’s approval rating is reported at 37.6% and his disapproval rating at 57%, which equates to a net negative approval rating for the president of -19.4%.
