On Thursday’s broadcast of “CNN This Morning,” Biden campaign co-chairman Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) spoke out about the news that President Joe Biden is considering stricter executive measures at the border. In response, he said he hopes Biden will “move policy forward.” I hope the executive order stays within the four corners of this agreement agreed upon on the Senate side. ”
Co-host Phil Mattingly said, “The collapse of bipartisan immigration negotiations, largely driven by former President Trump, and the Biden administration’s decision to begin reviewing what President Trump did while in office.” I’m interested in watching both, but are you worried?” Is the commitment to a humane immigration system being replaced here by a kind of political necessity? ”
Clyburn said, “Yes, I am concerned about politicizing this issue. This issue has been going on for a long, long time. This issue was introduced during the Reagan administration, long before I came to Congress. I remember there was. When I first came to Congress, I worked with Xavier Becerra… and we had a problem that we thought we could solve all of this. We were on the House side. We sat and waited for the Senate to introduce a bill. At the last minute, Republicans intervened and withdrew their support, and it collapsed. Just a few weeks ago, we experienced a similar travesty. …So Republicans want to keep this immigration issue as a political issue rather than trying to solve it. I hope that it stays within the four corners of this agreement agreed upon on the Senate side, because I think there is broad support in the House for the Senate’s conclusions. Let’s hope we can do some business.”
