Biden challenges GOP to pass border security deal and gets immediate blowback: ‘Extraordinary dishonesty’

President Joe Biden posted what he called a bipartisan agreement on new border security measures on Friday, but it was quickly criticized by politicians and commentators on the right.

“For too long, we all know our border has been broken. It's long past time to fix it,” Biden's statement read. “That's why two months ago, I directed my team to begin negotiations with a bipartisan group of senators to seriously and finally address the border crisis.”

He went on to say that the bill would give him emergency powers to close the border if it becomes “overwhelmed,” which he would exercise on the first day he receives it.

“Furthermore, Congress must finally provide the funding I requested in October to secure our borders,” the statement continued. “This includes an additional 1,300 Border Patrol agents, 375 immigration agents, 1,600 asylum officers, and more than 100 state-of-the-art testing machines to help detect and interdict fentanyl at the Southwest border. It is included.”

The proposal was criticized by many on social media.

“Abnormal dishonesty. Suicidal politics.” answered Charles CW Cook of National Review.

“If Biden wants a deal, he knows there is no border security in that deal. The past three years have proven that,” the article read. parent's letter From Texas Republican Congressman Chip Roy.

“Biden's actions prove his words are a lie. Biden's three-year open border policy has incited a historic invasion of the United States by an estimated 10 million illegal aliens. He is actively fighting to prevent Texas from defending its border. His 'deal' allows an additional 1.8 million people to live in the country illegally per year.” answered Jim DeMint of the Conservative Partnership Institute says:

“No. Shut up until we have a president who actually protects our border. Biden wants to greenlight border policy into law by admitting 1.8 million immigrants a year. We have to do better. ” answered Sen. Rick Scott of Florida.

Former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger said he saw a turnaround for Biden if Republicans rejected the proposal.

“If Republicans refuse to do this, and the president continues to negotiate hard, he has a real chance to flip the Republican scenario.” He said.

At least one liberal activist denounced the plan as evil.

“Democrats are trying to defeat Republicans by demonizing them, and that's creating a more dire, dangerous and hostile environment than I ever imagined.” Said Alicia Castillo of Equity Action.

Also on Friday, Texas authorities continued to defy the Biden administration, installing razor wire at the border to prevent migrants from crossing, despite a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in favor of the federal government.
