In a recent statement, former President Joe Biden expressed his views on the upcoming 2024 presidential election, which, he indicated, has faced pressure from the far left.
When questioned about whether he had waited too long to step back, Biden replied, “I don’t think it’s important. We left at that time—there were good candidates. She was well-funded. What I was trying to do, no one asked me to do, and we would have been very successful.”
He continued, “What I meant when I started out is that I’m getting ready to pass this on to the next generation, but things have changed quickly.”
Upon reflecting on his regrets, Biden stated, “No, I think it was the right decision. Um, it was just a difficult decision.”
Despite having time to recharge since taking office, Biden doesn’t seem to be at his best.
Biden implied he’s waiting for the moment to withdraw, while also contending that it wouldn’t have made much difference, asserting, “No one could beat Trump.” Such frankness probably doesn’t sit well with Democrats, corporate media, or the organized left.
Still, he must understand how absurd all this is. Personally, I see his underlying message—after four tumultuous years, defeating Trump would be a tall order. Time, it seems, remains the critical asset as the election approaches.
If Biden had withdrawn earlier, the Democrats could have explored more appealing options than the pairing of Biden and Kamala Harris. Who really wants the same leadership for another four years?
It’s possible the Democrats could have found candidates who resonated better than Kamala, who often struggles to articulate her thoughts clearly.
But, well, such is the game of “what ifs.”
But let’s not forget—the same factions upset about Biden’s delayed exit are those responsible for it. We all witnessed the obvious flaws in his leadership, yet many insisted otherwise.
If they had acknowledged the situation instead of clinging to unrealistic hopes, perhaps Biden wouldn’t be in the race for reelection.
I don’t fault Biden himself; sometimes, it feels like he’s lost in the moment. The real accountability lies with those around him. What if? That’s just part of the current landscape.
