The State Department announced Tuesday that the Biden-Harris administration will not cut off arms supplies to Israel, pushing back against the perception that Israel's mitigation efforts are worsening the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
As Breitbart News reported in October, the Biden-Harris administration threatened a partial arms embargo if Israel did not take steps to meet requests for humanitarian aid to Gaza, citing U.S. human rights law. .
era of israel noticed:
US State Department Spokesperson Vedant Patel says President Joe Biden's administration will suspend arms shipments to Israel for now amid today's deadline for Jerusalem to take a series of steps to ameliorate Gaza's humanitarian crisis. This appears to have confirmed reports that he has no intention of doing so.
Patel acknowledged at a press conference that Israel had responded to some, but not all, of the measures requested by the United States in the letter, giving Jerusalem 30 days to remedy the humanitarian crisis and failing to do so. It said there was a risk it would be considered a violation of U.S. law banning offensive weapons. They will not be transferred to a country that prevents aid from reaching civilians.
Nevertheless, he said that at this time the United States “has not made any assessment that Israelis have violated American law.”
As Breitbart News previously noted:
Asked about the Biden-Harris administration's November 13 deadline for the U.S. to begin reducing arms to Israel unless the humanitarian situation in Gaza improves, Mensah said Israel takes the request “very seriously.” “I accept it.” ” and acted in accordance with that request.
Mensah showed footage of trucks waiting to unload on the Gaza side of the Kerem Shalom intersection. “These are images of 900 truckloads of aid supplies waiting to be picked up by international aid agencies,” he said.
He noted that an aid truck inside the Gaza Strip was stopped earlier this week and was found carrying weapons.
It is almost certain that the incoming Trump administration would have lifted any arms embargo. If Vice President Kamala Harris had won the election, the State Department might have made a very different announcement.
