An illegal alien was released to the United States by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) even though he had been convicted of raping a child in his native Brazil just months earlier.
Alexandre Romao de Oliveira (41), an illegal immigrant from Brazil, was convicted of a crime On February 10, 2022, he appeared in a criminal court on charges of child rape in Jar, Rondônia, Brazil. He was then sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Just a few months later, on April 16, 2022, Romao de Oliveira crossed the U.S.-Mexico border near Santa Teresa, New Mexico.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris' Department of Homeland Security detained Romao de Oliveira, but quickly released him into the U.S. and years later filed a Notice to Appear (NTA) in federal immigration court. .
After more than two years in the United States, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Romao de Oliveira in Methuen, Massachusetts. ICE is expected to hand over Romao de Oliveira to Brazilian authorities to serve his sentence.
“Alexandre Romao de Oliveira is a convicted child rapist who fled his home country to evade justice,” ICE officer Patricia Hyde said in a statement. “Strengthening public safety begins with cooperation among law enforcement partners.
