President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have twice released into the United States an illegal immigrant who was arrested with a machete outside the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC.
Temporary Staff Report The report by the House Judiciary Committee led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and the Immigration Subcommittee led by Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) details the case of Jose Leonardo Marquez Marquez, a 23-year-old undocumented immigrant from Venezuela.
“For more than three and a half years, President Joe Biden and ‘border official’ Vice President Kamala Harris have orchestrated the largest influx of illegal immigrants in American history,” the report begins.
Due to the Biden-Harris administration’s radical immigration policies, there are currently over 7 million illegal immigrants in the United States. The results were all too predictable: cities overwhelmed, public services collapsed, and communities torn apart by the criminal activity of some illegal immigrants. [Emphasis added]
As reported by Breitbart News, Marquez-Marquez was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police the day after Christmas last year outside the Capitol building while armed with “knives, bricks and a machete,” according to a police report.
Marquez-Marquez was first arrested near the U.S.-Mexico border in Eagle Pass, Texas, in late August 2022. The day after his arrest by Border Patrol agents, Marquez-Marquez was released onto U.S. soil, with Homeland Security officials claiming the reason for his release was “due to the capacity of the soft facility at Eagle Pass North Police Station.”
As Jordan and McClintock point out, the Department of Homeland Security’s own detention space data shows that the department had the beds to detain Marquez-Marquez but chose not to.
During an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) inspection, Marquez-Marquez was deemed a “priority” deportation target by ICE agents and a warrant was issued for his arrest, but Marquez-Marquez was released from ICE custody on his own recognizance.
Two months after the ICE search, Marquez-Marquez was arrested outside the U.S. Capitol building. Federal prosecutors said he had a fake visa, a false Social Security number, a machete and a brick in his hand.
The charges against Marquez-Marquez were subsequently dropped and he was transferred to ICE custody, according to the report. As of late July, Marquez-Marquez remained in ICE custody awaiting deportation.
