Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that President Joe Biden “hasn’t lost any support with African Americans.”
Anchor Dana Bash said, “President Biden won his first official primary in South Carolina last night. What did we learn about his strength in a key part of his base? Here Joining me is Jim Clyburn from South Carolina. Thank you for being here. The Biden campaign is looking forward to working with you and, of course, making a show of strength in states with a large number of black voters. and entered South Carolina last night. There were concerns about whether he continued to lose support with black voters. Based on what we saw last night, what is the answer?”
“Thank you so much for having me,” Clyburn said. “I think the answer is a resounding yes. Nowhere is that better illustrated by the fact that he received 96% of the vote in this primary.” But his largest percentage, over 97%, was in the town of Orangeburg, which has two HBCUs and one community college. And he got the largest percentage statewide. , proves what I’ve always said: Joe Biden hasn’t lost support among African Americans. If you go out and talk to 10 people and publish one comment, Maybe he’ll think differently. He hasn’t lost support among African-Americans.”
