Biden heads into debate trailing Trump by 1.2 percent in polls

President Biden heads into the first presidential debate on Thursday trailing former President Trump in approval ratings by 1.2 percentage points, according to a Decision Desk HQ/The Hill poll.

As of Wednesday night, a compilation of 755 polls showed Trump with an approval rating of 45% and Biden with 43.8%. The two will face off in a CNN-sponsored debate in Atlanta.

Biden is struggling to close the gap with Trump in the polls and will face a crucial moment in the CNN debate, where he will also be challenged to allay public concerns about his age and mental health.
