Speaking to the media in Brownsville, Texas, near the southern border, President Joe Biden ignored questions about the killing of Laken Riley, 22, who was allegedly killed by an illegal alien released into the United States.
On Thursday, Biden met with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas at the Border Patrol Station in Brownsville and spoke about the record number of illegal immigrants, mostly on his watch.
At the end of the press conference, a reporter asked Biden: Mr. President, are you responsible for Laken Riley’s death? ” Biden did not answer questions, instead continuing to shake hands with officials.
In contrast, former Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he had spoken to Riley’s parents, calling them “incredible people.”
As Breitbart News reported, on February 22, Riley was found murdered in a wooded area on the University of Georgia campus in Athens. Riley, a nursing student at Augusta University, went for a run that morning and when she didn’t return, her roommate called police.
On February 23, Jose Antonio Ibarra, a 26-year-old illegal immigrant from Venezuela, was arrested and charged with Riley’s kidnapping and murder. Ybarra first arrived at the southern border in September 2022 and was released into the interior of the United States thanks to Biden’s parole pipeline.
In August 2023, Ybarra was arrested in the sanctuary city of New York on charges of causing injury to a child and violating motor vehicle regulations. He was charged and released before Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could request his custody.
In October 2023, Ybarra and his brother, also illegal aliens released into the interior of the United States, were cited for shoplifting $200 worth of merchandise from a Walmart in Athens. Mr. Ybarra failed to appear in court on shoplifting charges, and a warrant for his arrest was issued in December 2023.
