President Joe Biden just can’t help himself. The President’s pardon of his son is a one-two punch in service of the MAGA agenda.
After months of denials, Biden did what we all knew was inevitable: pardoning his son, Hunter Biden, for anything and everything over the past decade. For conservatives, it’s tempting to whine about liberal hypocrisy, the glaring abuse of power and America’s two-tiered justice system. But trust me, it’ll all be worth it in the end. First off, Republicans just can’t afford to talk about Hunter Biden any longer. Think of the early days of the Biden administration: incremental updates on the Biden Crime Family dripped out every 48 hours, feeding outrage and sucking up limited attention spans in a fast moving news cycle. That’s fine when Republicans are out of power, but now the story of the day should always be geared toward furthering the Republican governing agenda. Without the pardon, conservatives (both elected and grassroots) would be baying for blood; when will we finally hear the sordid truth of Hunter’s sage? When will we pay for his crimes? While it sucks the Golden Boy caught yet another break, conservatism as a movement has far more important things to focus on. In rendering any investigations pointless, the pardon takes this massive distraction off the table. All action, all the time; no more dwelling on the past.
Next, the pardon sets a very glaring precedent. For all Democrats’ talk about norms and institutions, Biden’s action here is a stunning break from tradition. And it gives Trump almost a carte blanche to pardon who he pleases. Trump-hater par excellence Charlie Sykes’ lamentation says it all:
“Smart person texts me: ‘Joe Biden has just removed the issue of pardons from the political arena for the next four years and Trump probably once again can’t believe his own dumb fucking luck at this point,’” Sykes relayed on X.
“Sadly, I think he’s right.”
There’s no shortage of political prisoners from the last four years under the Biden regime. Trump can now go buckwild with pardons and dare the media to make a peep.
