White House officials who sparked controversy with social media posts attacking police, supporting anti-Israel protests and promoting “Russiagate” have now downplayed the posts, saying they were written when they were younger and do not reflect their current views.

Tyler Cherry was promoted last week to deputy White House communications director after more than three years at the Department of the Interior under Secretary Deb Haaland, but the promotion has brought renewed attention to some of Cherry’s past inflammatory posts.

In a 2015 tweet, Cherry said he was “praying even more fervently for an end to the capitalist police state that is based on explicit and implicit racial bias.”

The tweet came amid riots in Baltimore following the death of a black man, Freddie Gray, in police custody.

In another post a few months later, Cherry said modern police are a “direct evolution of slave patrols and lynch mobs.”

Many of his posts champion the Palestinian cause against Israel, such as in one post from July 25, 2014: “Let’s cheer in the bar for an end to the occupation of Palestine. No shame, no respect, and no glaring. #ISupportGaza #FreePalestine.”

Other posts are directed at Republicans, accusing them of placing too much emphasis on “white grievance politics,” while one openly calls for the abolition of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“Social media posts from when I was younger do not reflect my current views. End,” Cherry wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday.

“I support the policies of the current Administration and will continue to focus my outreach efforts on climate and environmental policy,” he wrote.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Cherry for comment on his change of belief. White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates previously told Fox News Digital that the White House is “very proud to have Tyler join our team.”

The Biden administration has reaffirmed its support for Israel, much to the dismay of the Democratic Party’s progressive wing, as Israel continues its war with Hamas following an Oct. 7 attack by the terrorist group that left some 1,200 people dead and hundreds taken hostage.

But rifts have widened between the Biden administration and that of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent months, and the White House has become increasingly critical of Biden’s leadership in recent months as the death toll in Gaza has risen.
