Biden Officials Were Aware That Sheridan Gorman's Suspected Killer Was a Flight Risk But Released Him Regardless

Biden Administration’s Release of Murder Suspect Draws Criticism

Officials from the Biden administration allowed an undocumented immigrant, accused of murdering college student Sheridan Gorman, to be released despite concerns that he might flee, according to Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee.

Chicago police announced on March 22 that Jose Medina-Medina had been arrested for Gorman’s murder. Gorman, a freshman at Loyola University, was shot while walking in a city park. On a recent post on X, committee Republicans shared documents showing that the Biden administration was aware that Medina-Medina had no identification, a valid U.S. address, or any confirmed point of contact, and was deemed “likely to abscond” before his release.

Committee Republicans stated, “Democrats knew this man was dangerous and had no legitimate asylum claim. But they still released him.” They further stated that Medina-Medina had been apprehended at the border in 2023, released two weeks later, and noted by officials as “likely to abscond,” with no verifiable contact information.

According to a March post on X by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Medina-Medina had initially been apprehended by Border Patrol agents in 2023 but was released. ICE confirmed that he was released again in June 2023 after being arrested for shoplifting in Chicago.

The released documents indicate that Medina-Medina had claimed he planned to reside in New Rochelle, New York, a suburb of New York City.
