Joe Biden and the Democratic National Committee reportedly raised $85 million last month for the president’s 2024 reelection bid, a far cry from the massive sum former President Donald Trump raised in May.
The 81-year-old sitting president’s May fundraising total marked the second-best month for Biden’s campaign and allied groups, a Biden campaign official told CNBC on Thursday, noting that the president did not hold any major fundraisers or events last month.
Biden’s reelection campaign now has $212 million in funding, up from $192 million at the end of April. ReportedlyThe campaign’s latest fundraising figures have been received.
“Our strong and consistent fundraising program saw millions of increases in May, a clear sign that enthusiasm for the President and Vice President continues to grow strongly each month,” Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement.
“The funds we continue to raise are important and help our campaign build an operation that is invested in reaching and winning over voters who decide our elections,” she added.
Biden’s May income total fell short of the record-breaking $141 million that Trump, 78, and the Republican National Committee said they raised last month.
Donors, spurred by the historic guilty verdict in President Trump’s Manhattan hush-money trial, gave a staggering $53 million in the 24 hours after the verdict was read on May 30, accounting for 37.6% of the total for that month.

The Trump campaign has not disclosed the amount of cash it had on hand as of the end of last month, but it is not required to report it until July.
The Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee also outraised the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee in April, raising $76 million to the Democrats’ $51 million.
