Biden Says ‘No U.S. Boots Will Be on the Ground’ for Gaza Port Project

Claim: President Joe Biden claimed:[n]”America’s boots will be on the ground” and building a port for aid in Gaza.

Verdict: Mostly wrong. The project would require thousands of U.S. troops to be stationed on the ground or near the coast.

As reported by Breitbart News, Biden proposed in Thursday’s State of the Union address that the U.S. military build a new port in Gaza to facilitate the transfer of aid to the region. The Israeli government has repeatedly noted that unrestricted aid is already flowing into the Gaza Strip. The problem is allocation, especially since Hamas steals much of the aid money. And the White House itself acknowledged at a briefing that trucking aid is a more efficient and effective approach.

Moreover, Gaza had a port even before the war. The terrorist organization Hamas controls the island and used it to launch maritime attacks during the October 7 attack on Israel. Israel destroyed its port in November in clashes with Hamas terrorists.

Still, the idea of a port is a visual concept that presents a striking image of aid, similar to aid being dropped from planes.

But it cannot build a port or secure a port in a war zone unless Americans are stationed in the area.

as new york times It was reported on Thursday that:

U.S. officials laid out plans for the U.S. to become more directly involved in providing aid hours before President Biden was scheduled to deliver his State of the Union address Thursday night. Details of what they described as a floating pier off the coast of Gaza will be included in the speech, officials said.

Officials told reporters that implementation could take 30 to 60 days or more, and could involve hundreds or thousands of troops, in line with Biden’s commitment to keep U.S. troops on the ground in the Gaza Strip. U.S. soldiers may take part aboard ships just off the coast, he said. Conflict intensifies. The port will be built in cooperation with other countries in the region, officials said.

The idea that there are no “boots on the ground” is almost comical when the Navy is involved rather than the Army, meaning the Seabees are on ships hundreds of yards from shore rather than on land.
